Here is the designs made for the mural wall behind the throne of Kublai Khan. It is a reimagining of a traditional Chinese drapery, but extended with different details to make it fit the whole wall.

The production designer wanted something that feels powerful yet more delicate, so the details on the columns and the beams became this intricate pattern of golden flowers and leaves
